Where is Methos Homestay Located
Methos Homestay is located on the south-western coast of Gam Island in the Dampier Strait, one of the most popular and biodiverse regions of Raja Ampat in Southwest Papua, Indonesia. Surrounded by coral reefs, mangrove forests, and limestone islands, Gam provides easy access to many of Raja Ampat’s most famous snorkeling, diving, and wildlife experiences, while remaining quieter than some of the region’s more developed areas.
Its central location makes it a convenient base for exploring nearby destinations such as Arborek, Mansuar, Kri, and Piaynemo while enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of a local Papuan homestay.

How to Get to Methos Homestay in Raja Ampat
The easiest way to get to Methos Homestay is via a longboat transfer from Wasai Harbour, arranged by the homestay. If you are already staying elsewhere in Raja Ampat, they may also be able to coordinate a transfer from your existing accommodation.
From Wasai Harbour to Homestay
Long Boat
After arriving at Wasai Harbour in Waigeo via either the fast ferry or private transfer from Sorong, you will need to arrange a local long boat transfer to Methos Homestay.
It’s best to organise this directly with the homestay through WhatsApp at least a week in advance, allowing enough time for them to coordinate pickup times around ferry arrivals

Things to Know:
Public ferries from Sorong typically arrive at Wasai in the morning and afternoon.
Mobile reception around Wasai and Gam is generally reliable, but it's still best to confirm transfer details before travelling.
Sea conditions in Raja Ampat can occasionally affect travel times, particularly during periods of strong wind or rough weather.

Methos Homestay features a collection of overwater bungalows extending from the shoreline of Gam Island, overlooking calm waters, coral reefs, and nearby mangrove forests. The accommodation follows the traditional Raja Ampat homestay style, providing a comfortable base for snorkeling, birdwatching, and exploring the Dampier Strait while maintaining an authentic local atmosphere.
The rooms are of a noticeably higher standard than many remote homestays found in southern Raja Ampat, particularly in Misool, with better construction and furnishings, though bathrooms remain shared rather than ensuite.

Food
Meals at Methos Homestay are home-cooked and available at an additional cost, with a focus on fresh Indonesian-style dishes featuring rice, vegetables, locally caught fish, and seasonal fruit. The food quality was among the best we experienced in Raja Ampat, with generous portions and a good variety throughout our visit. Unlike many homestays in Misool, including Yamnini Homestay, meals are served privately to your bungalow rather than in a communal dining area, a feature that may appeal to couples or those seeking a more relaxed and secluded experience.
Meals are at an additional cost, but are relatively cheap
If out during the day the homestay will also provide your lunch in a takeaway container
Fresh drinking water is provided, but I would bring your own refillable bottle
If you would like any snacks there is a small village around a 15 minute walk away, but options are limited
Electricity and Wifi
Electricity is available at Methos Homestay during limited hours, which is common throughout remote parts of Raja Ampat. There is limited phone reception available at the homestay so you are able to use a mobile sim card.
Electricity is on between 6:00PM and 6:00AM daily
Telkol sim was the most reliable network in the area
There is no Wifi at Methos homestay

Snorkeling is possible directly underneath the homestay, with coral and marine life located just offshore

Best Sites to Visit Near Methos Homestay
Methos Homestay is well positioned for exploring some of northern Raja Ampat’s most scenic viewpoints, islands and snorkel spots with day trips easily arranged directly through the homestay.

Piaynemo Viewpoint
Approximately 1 hour away by long boat from Methos Homestay is Piaynemo viewpoint.
From the summit, visitors are rewarded with panoramic views across a maze of limestone karst islands, turquoise lagoons, and vibrant coral reefs that have become synonymous with the region.
Dafalen Peak and Lagoon
Located in the Misool region of Raja Ampat, Dafalen Peak is an incredible viewpoint overlooking a naturally formed heart-shaped lagoon surrounded by limestone karst islands.
The viewpoint is reached via a short but steep hike, rewarding the climb with panoramic views across the surrounding turquoise lagoons and reef systems
