Wild North Atlantic

Faroe Islands

The Faroe Islands are a raw, windswept adventure playground in the North Atlantic where dramatic sea cliffs, narrow mountain ridgelines, and waterfalls plunging into the ocean create some of Europe’s most surreal landscapes. What makes them unique is the sense of true remoteness paired with accessibility, you can hike to iconic cliff-top lighthouses, kayak beneath towering rock formations, and explore turf-roofed villages all in a single day. With ever-changing weather, minimal crowds, and untamed scenery at every turn, the Faroes offer a pure, off-the-grid experience for travelers who crave wild beauty and real adventure.

Guide to Hiking to Trøllkonufingur Viewpoint, Vagar, Faroe Islands

Trøllkonufingur is one of the Faroe Islands’ most striking natural landmarks, rising like a stone spire from the ocean off the coast of Vágar. Surrounded by rolling green slopes, dramatic coastlines, and ever-changing skies, Trøllkonufingur captures the raw, mythical character of the Faroes in a single, unforgettable scene.

After dreaming about visiting Kallur Lighthouse for years, I finally made it to this famous viewpoint on Kalsoy, and it lived up to every expectation. The hike follows green ridgelines above the North Atlantic, with sweeping views across the neighbouring islands of Kunoy, Eysturoy and Viðoy. It was one of my favourite stops in the Faroe Islands and a place I’d recommend adding to any road trip.
